Frequently asked questions
- Is the image uploaded to a server?
- No. OCR runs in a browser Web Worker, so neither the image nor the result ever leaves your machine.
- How is this different from “Extract text” on the PDF site?
- The PDF tools work on PDF files: they read the text layer first and only use OCR for scans. This tool always uses OCR, on JPG/PNG/WebP screenshots or photos — ideal for chat screenshots and photographed documents. Each site hosts its own OCR language data, so they are independent.
- Why is the first run slow?
- The first run downloads the OCR engine and language data (about 10–15MB) from this site; your browser caches it, so later runs are much faster.
- What if the recognition is inaccurate?
- Handwriting, tilted shots, low resolution and busy backgrounds reduce accuracy. Use a clear, straight photo and proofread the result — this tool does not do table or layout analysis.
- Does it work inside WeChat?
- tesseract.js is unstable in the WeChat WebView, so tap “…” and open the page in a real browser.
