How to Build a Nine-Grid or Filmstrip Collage? Photo Collage Templates
A tour of TwoThink's collage templates: nine-grid, four-grid, filmstrip, horizontal and vertical strips, plus ID-photo A4 layouts, spacing, corner radius and output size — all done locally in your browser.
You want to show several photos in one feed post, but WeChat only lets you pick nine and the native layout looks poor. Doing it in Photoshop or Canva means registering an account and possibly uploading private photos. Most of the time the work is simpler: pick a template, drag the images in, adjust the spacing, download one large file.
Collage templates or Merge Images?
| Scenario | Recommended tool |
|---|---|
| Nine-grid, filmstrip, a fixed 1080 output | Photo Collage Templates |
| Horizontal / vertical / grid, keeping each image's own ratio | Merge Images |
| Changing the backdrop plus a standard ID photo | ID Photo Generator |
The ID photo template here only handles the layout (six 1-inch or four 2-inch photos on an A4 sheet); it does not change the background colour. For a cutout with a new backdrop, use the ID photo tool.
Common templates
- Nine-grid / four-grid: equal cells, good for feed posts and Xiaohongshu covers
- Filmstrip: one large image on the left with two smaller ones stacked on the right, leaning into a vertical storytelling look
- Horizontal / vertical strip: 2–5 images at equal width or equal height
- Free grid: 1–5 rows and columns, your choice
- ID photo layout: A4 at 300dpi, reusing the 1-inch and 2-inch pixel specs
How to build one
- Open Photo Collage Templates
- Pick a template, then drag in or select JPG / PNG / WebP files (the EXIF orientation is corrected automatically)
- Reorder with the arrows in the list; when there are fewer images than cells, the empty cells show the background colour
- Adjust the spacing (0–20px), the corner radius (0–30px), the background colour and the output size (1080 square / 1080×1920 / A4 / custom)
- Switch each cell between crop to fill and fit entirely
- Download the PNG or JPG
Everything is composited locally on a Canvas in your browser: no uploads and no watermark.
Small tips
- For a nine-grid, export at 1080×1080; that is sharp enough for a feed post
- For a vertical story feel, choose 1080×1920 with the filmstrip template
- Printing ID photos yourself: make the 1-inch or 2-inch photos with the ID photo tool first, then lay them out on A4 with the 6×1-inch / 4×2-inch template
