Choosing ID Photo Sizes and Background Colours — 1-inch, 2-inch and A4 Layouts

Pixel specs for 1-inch, 2-inch, passport and social-security photos, white/blue/red and gradient-blue backdrops, plus the steps to cut out a photo locally in your browser and download an A4 layout.

A photo studio charges a premium for one set of ID photos, and you still have to make the trip. Most cases only need: cut out the person, change the background, crop to the standard size, then print it yourself or submit it electronically. The key is to get the dimensions right and not to upload your photo to a random website.

Choosing a background colour

  • White: most electronic submissions and everyday documents
  • Blue (#438EDB): common for graduation certificates and résumés
  • Red: required by some certificates and ID cards
  • Gradient blue: increasingly common for résumé photos

If you are unsure, ask whether they want a white or a blue background, then keep both versions as backup.

Do it locally with TwoThink

  1. Open the ID Photo Generator
  2. Upload a JPG / PNG / WebP (the EXIF orientation is corrected first, then the AI cutout runs)
  3. Choose the size and the background colour; drag and zoom in the preview until the face is centred
  4. Download a single JPG/PNG, or use the "A4 layout" with crop marks and take it to a print shop

The cutout shares the model cache with Remove Image Background, so a second run on the same site is usually faster. The photo is never uploaded.
