Don't Want to Upload ID Photos to remove.bg? Remove Backgrounds Locally in Your Browser
Upload-based cutout versus fully in-browser AI background removal: how to choose for privacy, speed and batch work, plus step-by-step instructions for TwoThink's local cutout.
You need a transparent background for a product hero image, or a different backdrop for a résumé photo. The first reflex is to open remove.bg. It is convenient, but the original file is uploaded to someone else's server — for ID photos and unreleased product shots, I would rather not do that.
Upload-based versus local
| Cloud upload cutout | In-browser AI | |
|---|---|---|
| Privacy | The file leaves your device | The file never leaves the browser |
| Cost | Often watermarks or usage caps | Free forever with TwoThink |
| First run | Fast | Downloads a model, then it is cached and instant |
| Batch | Depends on the plan | Processed locally one by one, exportable as a ZIP |
Remove backgrounds locally with TwoThink
- Open Remove Image Background
- Drag in JPG / PNG / WebP files (up to 10MB each, 20 files at most)
- Wait for the model to load and the cutout to run (the progress bar keeps you posted)
- If you want a white or blue background, switch it in the Background section, then download the PNG or the ZIP bundle
Your network panel should never show a request that POSTs your photo to a third party; the model assets are served from this site's own static domain.
If it will not open inside WeChat
Large models rely on WASM, and the WeChat in-app browser often cannot handle it. Tap ··· → Open in browser in the top right corner. Lighter tools such as compression and cropping still work inside WeChat.
Combine it with QR codes and long images
Once you have a transparent cutout, you can generate a QR code for your printed materials, or stitch images into a long image for social posts. The whole chain runs in your browser, with no sign-up.
